The system of Ashtanga Yoga is deeply rooted in the Yoga Sutras, one of the most well respected ancient texts of India. The physical practice of Ashtanga, as developed by J. Pattabhi Jois, incorporates a system of postures intelligently sequenced in such a way that improves strength and flexibility, heats and purifies the body, and brings peace and stillness to the mind. Vinyasa or Flow yoga is heavily influenced by the traditional practice of Ashtanga.
This introduction to Ashtanga workshop will introduce the primary series or yoga chikitsa (the preservation of youthfulness and longevity of life), highlight the breath in connection to movement, and offer discussion around the importance of developing a regular yoga practice, whether dedicated to Ashtanga or another yoga discipline.
Anyone interested in exploring the roots of Vinyasa yoga and delving deeper into their own practice will benefit from this workshop. All levels welcome.
